Link bait is any feature or content in your website or blog that attracts or lures the attention of other webmasters, bloggers, journalists, internet publishers and others, and gives them a compelling reason to link to your site.

In other words, link bait should be interesting enough to catch another person’s attention and entice them to make a link.

So … what kind of things are interesting enough to “hook” someone else into linking to your web pages?

Well, some common forms of link bait include writing a top 10 list, a tutorial or a story that just begs to be shared with others (e.g. a breaking news story, a contrary, controversial or opposing view, a valuable resource, a great piece of humor, etc…). Many times, the best kind of link bait comes in the form of an online tool or a quirky distraction (e.g a clever, funny or amusing video).
